Theory and Practice of Decision Support Systems (TAPRADESS)

The Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis, administered by the Faculty of Business Informatics and Applied Mathematics in Nizhny Novgorod, supports decision-making through the use of advanced mathematical techniques, information and simulation modelling, as well as modern information systems.

The laboratory’s mission is to develop significant theoretical principles and practical information technologies used in decision-making for effective management of complex socio-economic systems. Its strategic goal is to establish an effective mechanism to develop and disseminate advanced theoretical methods and practical decision support technologies using information and communication technologies for the benefit of educational and professional communities.

Achieving this goal requires:

  1. Developing project-oriented educational programmes and searching for new forms of cooperation with the banking sector, as well as enterprises in the telecommunications and high-tech industries
  2. Attracting teachers to the HSE – Nizhny Novgorod who can bring practical solutions to important problems in the field of decision-support systems through the active use of theoretical and applied research results
  3. Launching new basic and applied research projects, and providing support for existing projects, in the area of formal representation of professional knowledge, as well as methods of mathematical modelling and simulation to support decision-making in complex socio-economic systems
  4. Providing information and methodological support for Master’s and PhD students during their dissertation work on topics related to the laboratory’s work

Principal Research Projects

  1. PassagePortuaire – a joint project with the Institut national des sciences appliquées de Rouen (France) aimed at optimizing logistics processes at France’s largest port and implementing information technologies in its management
  2. Development of advanced scientific and technical foundations to support on-demand transport management systems that contribute to creating a high-tech, modern Russian economy
  3. INFORPORT – design, implementation and pilot testing of an information analysis system aimed at supporting automated collection, consolidation and systematization of open source information on the areas of research undertaken by the HSE’s Nizhny Novgorod faculty members; automated search for employees and divisions with given research interests; and analysis of change dynamics in the research interests and research activity of Nizhny Novgorod’s divisions and employees
  4. Development of an adapted methodology to manage business processes at small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries (Russia and South Africa) and identify features and reusable templates that may be included in an SAP referential solution paradigm. Project originator – SAP AG
  5. Development of an automated system to build an operational plan and production schedule for the Legmash plant in Arzamas (Nizhny Novgorod region), which will not only improve current operational efficiency but also provide a foundation both for rapid changes in goods produced in response to changing customer needs and new market entry
  6. Practice Oriented EU-RU Master in Business Informatics, TEMPUS JEP 27208-2006 – a project aimed at developing an innovative and practical Master’s training programme with the participation of international partners (University of Münster and Aix-Marseille University)
  7. Non-compensatory aggregation algorithms – a project aimed at analyzing non-compensatory approaches to the compilation of ratings, researching tasks in the context of multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM), and analyzing the stability of rating results of students, borrowers and investment projects
  8. ProcessPedia – a project aimed at developing domain-specific editor of business processes and means of collective decision-making. Research is conducted jointly with SAP, which determines research tasks and provides students with work at its international laboratory in Karslruhe, Germany
  9. Development of methods and means of situational modelling to establish theoretical foundations and practical techniques to develop multi-agent means of situational modelling of complex processes that occur in contemporary socio-economic systems
  10. Development of theoretical foundations of a knowledge-driven economy to create new formal methods of knowledge organization and main updating in artificial systems with organized complexity
