Business and Professional Communication (in English)
1. Outline
The aim of the course is to build students’ communicative competency, which enables them to provide effective information exchange in English in their professional (legal) area.
The course includes basics of knowledge on Common Law jurisdictions as well as the Russian legislation;
extensive reading of legal texts; involvement in discussions, role plays, debates, case studies, simulations, giving oral presentations;
writing business letters and memos to lawyers and clients, doing research on a legal topic and writing an essay;
conducting lawyer-client interviews, participating in negotiations of contracts;
understanding legalese while listening to presentations, conversations, lectures on legal topics.
The final output is taking a course exam in legal English.

Company law; Formation, running, liquidation
Commercial law: commercial agencies. Case study
Real property law: Lease and license. Transferring title on property.
Litigation and arbitration: advantages and disadvantages of ADR
International law: sourses, conflict of laws cases. Case study
Comparative law: giving presentations

Students normally need to have passed IELTS exam on completing the courses of English (1-2 years at University) at B2-C1 level.
