Education

The Faculty of Humanities of the HSE - Nizhny Novgorod has the following staff: leading Russian linguists, literary scholars, specialists in various fields of humanities, known for their scientific achievements, both in Russia and abroad, with experience in teaching at Russian and foreign universities, as well as young, talented scientists who have already published significant scientific research.

Programmes

Bachelor’s degree programme in Fundamental and Applied Linguistics trains specialists in the area of computer programmes development, electronic dictionaries, and automatic translation systems. Furthermore, the students obtain detailed knowledge about the creation of search engines, networking, databases and all types of modern software. There are two tracks: ‘Theoretical Russian Studies’ (research of Russian language) and ‘Computational Linguistics’ (with a focus on computer design in linguistics). The graduates of the programme are usually eagerly sought at companies that actively use linguistic technologies (e.g., Yandex, Abbyy, Mail.ru, Facebook, etc.,) and IT companies.

Bachelor's programme in Philology trains specialists using various methods of philological analysis and interpretation of literary works. Furthermore, the graduates will be able to work with complex texts in Russian and foreign languages, will have skills in literary editing and copywriting, and compile electronic databases, digital libraries, book websites and web archives.

Bachelor's programme in Foreign Languages and Intercultural Business Communication prepares professionals with high proficiency in two foreign languages and specialization in one of the three profile areas: foreign languages and intercultural communication, translation and digital technologies, or intercultural business communication.

Bachelor's programme in Design was developed by renowned design professionals. It is aimed at preparing specialists capable of quickly immersing themselves in the professional world and successfully becoming part of the industry. In addition to mastering practical design skills, students develop their systematic conceptual thinking, study the history of arts, and learn to manage creative processes.

Master’s Programme in Applied Linguistics and Text Analytics prepares students for careers as research linguists. The graduates of the programme may work as experts or consultants capable of utilizing digital tools for text analysis. These skills, in combination with traditional methods of linguistic investigation, means that graduates can analyze texts in any language and of any volume, thereby ensuring the best solutions for applied tasks in business and interdisciplinary research. In addition, graduates may work in education and R&D as well as in public and private institutions dealing with text analytics, IT security, advertising consultancy, and marketing.

Master’s Programme in Media Text and Digital Communications is a full-time programme that aims to prepare graduates for writing texts in various media environments, creating anв analyzing media content, using modern information technologies. The programme aims to combine knowledge and skills in the field of philology competencies and in the field of media research and digital communications. Graduates of the programme work in media, digital marketing, publishing and Internet projects, multimedia advertising and PR agencies, corporate online resources, modern industries.

Master’s Programme in Modern Practices in Literary Studies: Poetics, Interpretations, Commentary provides comprehensive competencies in implementing various modern philological practices related to the interpretation, commenting, and structural study of fiction texts. Its combination of academic and applied educational tracks prepares graduates to continue their academic careers, work in publishing and literary criticism, organise educational projects, and create digital educational content.
