Employment Opportunities

While studying at HSE University, international students have the opportunity, if they so wish, to work.

What does the law say?

On August 5, 2020, amendments to the law entered into force, according to which foreign students do not need to obtain a work permit in Russia. Link to the announcement on the State Duma website - http://duma.gov.ru/news/49275/

However, there are several restrictions on specific positions:

1. Foreigners are not allowed to hold the position of chief accountant or any other position related to the accounting of a Russian company. Only foreigners who have a residence permit or temporary residence permit can keep the company's accounting records.

2. Foreigners cannot be employed in the municipal or civil service or in work related to the security of Russia.

What documents are usually required when applying for a job?

- certificate from the University that you are a student of the program,

- passport or other identity document and its copy with translation;

- employment record (if this is your first place of work, the employer will make it);

- insurance certificate of compulsory pension insurance SNILS (it can also be made by the employer);

- TIN, registration and migration card,

- contract (policy) of voluntary medical insurance valid on the territory of the Russian Federation;

- other documents at the request of the employer (a document of education or a certificate of no criminal record, for example).

It should be understood that due to the fact that the work permit for foreign students was canceled, employers may be even more careful and require additional certificates and documents.

More detailed information about employment opportunities you can find on the website of Career Development Department.
