The coat of arms of the city of Nizhny Novgorod is based on the historical coat of arms of the old town of Nizhny Novgorod, approved on August 16, 1781.

The coat of arms of the city of Nizhny Novgorod is an image on a quadrilateral, with rounded lower corners, picked at the tip of the heraldic shield, framed on the sides and bottom by the ribbon of the Order of Lenin.

 

The Deer is a symbol of nobility, purity and greatness, life, wisdom and justice.

The Crown is a symbol of achieving a high level of development.

The ribbon framing the coat of arms indicates that the city of Nizhny Novgorod was awarded the Order of Lenin.

Symbolic meanings of colors:

A silver colour is a symbol of perfection, nobility, purity of thoughts, peace;

A dark-red colour is a symbol of bravery, courage, intrepidity, maturity, energy, vitality;
