Summer Schools in Nizhny Novgorod

Each summer, the HSE-Nizhny Novgorod conducts summer language schools for foreigners wanting to study the Russian language. Usually the summer schools are conducted for students who are studying at foreign institutions of higher education that have partnered with the HSE.

The summer schools, open to anyone interested in studying the Russian language, are distinguished by a cultural programme that is of special interest to foreigners. It familiarizes participants with cities such as Nizhny Novgorod (sometimes called “the pocket of Russia” or the “third capital”); Gorodets, an ancient Russian city of craftspeople that was founded in 1152; and the town of Semyonov, producer of the world-famous matryoshka doll.

Summer school participants live with Russian host families, an experience that greatly facilitates their mastery of the Russian language and ensures continuous language practice for the duration of their studies. In the future, dormitory accommodations may be available. The HSE-Nizhny Novgorod assumes responsibility for providing visa support to language school participants. Qualified teachers from the Higher School of Economics undertake all instruction.

HSE-Nizhny Novgorod expects to hold 4 summer school programmes in 2020:

2 Summer Schools on Russian Language and Culture (May - June and July)

Summer School on Russian Law (mid. July)

Summer School on Russian Economics (mid. August)
