Abstract

Legal Linguistics is designed for undergraduate students and aimed at advancing their legal and linguistic knowledge and skills. This is an inter- and trancedisciplinary course. It is suitable for those who wish to work in an international legal environment in the contexts where a second endemic language is required. Legal Linguistics is to avoid miscommunication with peers and clients where one party is a non-native speaker from the country belonging to either civil or common law jurisdiction. The course provides integrated skills practice by developing a thematic link, so language is frequently recycled in different contexts. It also has tasks which stimulate students to do further academic research on one of the topics. Moreover, the course helps prepare students who wish to take the ILEC (International Legal English Certificate) examination.
