Research Seminar

The research seminar is one of the main forms of research work within the framework of the corresponding master's program "Finance".
The main purpose of the scientific seminar is to develop students' research skills and abilities that are not necessary for the preparation of a master's thesis. The training within the framework of SRS (Science Research Seminar) involves discussion of controversial issues on topical areas of finance development with the participation of teachers of the master's program, invited practitioners and researchers.
In the first year, classes begin with studying general issues of organizing and conducting scientific research, and the specifics of writing academic texts. In the future, project seminars are held, at which students present a work program on their own course work for discussion. Within the framework of the SRS, students present the intermediate results of the preparation of the course work, and their discussion takes place at the seminar. At the end of the first year of study, the course work is defended.
The main objectives of the research seminar are: formation of an idea about the most relevant research problems in the field of finance; training in the use of theoretical knowledge in conducting research and comprehensive analysis of financial problems; development of skills in preparing analytical reviews, scientific articles and reports; development of skills in presentation and discussion of research; scientific and methodological support for the preparation of a master's thesis by students.
At the beginning of the second year of study, the student clarifies the wording of the topic of the master's thesis. The plan of the future master's thesis is being defended. Within the framework of the second year of the SRS, practice-oriented seminars are organized and conducted with the participation of invited specialists, as well as discussion and defense of intermediate results of the master's thesis.
The form of final control of students' work within the framework of the SRS is an exam. When forming the final assessment, current results and grades obtained by students during the study of the relevant SRS thematic blocks are taken into account.
When grading for SRS, texts prepared at the stages of preparation of the course work and master's thesis are taken into account; presentations, presentations with the results of work on the course work and master's thesis; participation in discussions and discussions, comments, questions.
