Global Teambuilding: the Extreme Style

Traditional teambuilding activities organized for the Global Business students took place in a theme park. Shooting, climbing, and lazertag involved. Look inside for more information and pictures!

Let us solve a small task now. We have a group of students with different backgrounds, who come from all over the world, and they are supposed to study together for a year. What would be paramount for the success of this group? The English language ability? A broad educational background? Might be… But more importantly, they need to establish effective communication with each other, as it will enable them to do both: overcome language barrier and enrich one another.

With this purpose in mind, the Higher School of Economics – Nizhny Novgorod organized teambuilding activities for the 2016 Global Business Group on Sunday, the 16th. Thus, as soon as the Austrian and Italian students arrived in Russia they were invited to meet their new group mates in an informal setting, in a theme park ‘Extreme Land’.

Wall climbing, altitude high ropes adventure and the shooting gallery have all had their fair share in helping international students to enhance their relations. They have got to know each other and started fostering closer bonds. In a word, the ice was broken.

As they will have to devote a lot of their time to team work during the course, it is hard to think of a better way to start communication, than to begin it in an informal fashion. Even though global issues that students are going to deal with cannot be treated in a light-minded way, it is impossible for students to work together without interpersonal communication, which can be quite hard to establish in a classroom. The photos taken in Extreme Land clearly demonstrate that games and competitions have facilitated the start of the interaction process!
