Company Visits in GB Programme: DHL Hub
During the last company this year visit Global Business students paid a visit to the DHL branch in Bergamo, Italy. As usual we asked one of our students to share their thoughts afterwards.
This visit was indeed impressive and now I am going to tell you why. The visit was divided into three parts: first, we listened to the managers' presentation of the company. Second, we went to see the warehouse. Third, we visited the air cargo which delivers the goods to their destination.
We learned that DHL transports documents and goods worldwide, using their own air cargos as well as passenger ones. Bergamo is among the top 50 out of 550 DHL airports. It is the largest hub in Italy. Bergamo is also connected to Leipzig, which is one of the three largest airports of DHL and connects 50 airports.
In the warehouse we could see for ourselves that in order to check and pack the goods and documents the most modern technologies are used that help to quicken the process of delivery, to make it safer and to minimise the error probability up to 1%.
The most exciting part of the visit was held on the board of the air cargo. We saw the goods being loaded into the cargo, met the pilots and had an opportunity to have a look inside the pilot's cabin.
At the end of the day the manager gave us a simple but valuable piece of advice. He said that it is only important that you love your job. This is the key to success. We cannot but agree. We like what we are doing within this programme and we are not going to change when we step into the marketplace.
