In September 2025, Nizhny Novgorod became the centre of the international youth movement, hosting around 2,000 participants from 120 regions of Russia and abroad at the World Youth Festival Assembly. Students of HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod’s Foreign Languages and Intercultural Business Communication, Fundamental and Applied Linguistics, and International Bachelor’s in Business and Economics programmes were involved in the event in a variety of roles, from attachés and volunteers to performers and speakers.

The rector wished happy holidays to the HSE family and urged everyone to believe in holiday magic, if only for a while. ‘May your wishes come true. Let’s keep together in the coming year and move our university forward. I hope that the new year will be good for all of us. Happy New Year!’

Thirty years ago, on November 27, 1992, a historical event happened: the Russian government issued Order No. 917 ‘On the establishment of Higher School of Economics’. In the three decades since then, the university has evolved from a small school for economists to a multidisciplinary university; it has become an intellectual community that makes a contribution to the well-being of the country and the world.

2020 has become a year of research for Yaroslava Mavlyutova, third-year law student at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod, including participation in five research competitions, prize-winning places and ambitious international tasks. HSE New Service talked to Yaroslava about research curiosity, bravery and mentorship – the three pillars of her desire to succeed.
