Employees of start-up companies first and foremost like openness and comfort at work that enable them to feel at home, ease of communication with management, recognition for success and even constructive criticism. 95% of start-up employees believe that job satisfaction is the main motivation to perform well and that rewards and recognition are of secondary importance.

These data are presented in an article by Olga Gaponova, Associate Professor in the Department of General and Strategic Management at HSE’s Nizhny Novgorod campus. The article is called ‘The Personnel Motivation System as a Tool of Corporate Planning at Innovative Companies in the Early Stages of Development’.
