Open Doors Recap
On Sunday, April 9th, at Mayak was held the meet-up for youth about initiative and career development known as more than education, Сверх образования. This event lived up to its name as there were talks and activities for people thinking about their future, for those entering the university at various levels, and those finishing who need a job. Rosatom was one company that talked about the opportunities in their company and provided a quest that was suitable for the whole family.
In terms of speeches, there were speeches from a wide range of students, professors, and companies. One speech, which was called What Can Corpus Linguistics Do?, was presented by three students of ALTA; James Stuart Black, Daria Puchkina, and Vladislava Karabanova. They entertained the audience while explaining what tools are used, the features of these tools, and why it would be interesting to study in this field. The main highlights of the speech were character analysis, crisis discourse analysis, and an analysis of the frequency of certain words. Each speaker in their own way mentioned that tools are just instruments, but what students must do is to analyze the data to make conclusions. Those who attended the speech were intrigued by the research carried out and the future job opportunities that are available.
