Career opportunities

The programme's lecturers are globally recognized researchers, conducting pioneering work in the field of dynamic systems. Therefore we expect the majority of our graduates to build their careers in the fundamental scientific sphere related to the dynamic phenomena and search for numerical and analytic solutions to the issue. The programme prepares specialists capable of taking PhD in top-ranked universities of the world and of working in high-tech industries where expertise in dynamical systems is essential.

At the same time, as qualification in mathematics is now in a strong and constant need, career opportunities for our students are correspondingly diverse and a scientific sphere is not the only one they can apply their knowledge to.

The need for graduates from Mathematical Faculties at the global labour market cannot be underestimated, so a full range of positions in different intellectual spheres is on offer. Although Mathematics itself does not provide knowledge in economics, for example, the course will help to develop skills in doing systematic analysis and designing strategy. This means that a mathematician who has gained extra experience in some unrelated field (e.g. in economics) will be more efficient and demanded in the labour market than a graduate specialist in this field (e.g. economist) who had Mathematics as an additional subject during his years of study. These preferences of employers have been proved by many international companies. Thus, a degree in Mathematics can serve as a competitive advantage over other job seekers and the following courses can provide our students with it:

  • Data Science
  • Statistical Modelling and Actuarial Science
  • Data Analysis in Biology and Medicine
  • Information Security
  • Logistics
  • Machine Learning
  • Software Engineering
  • Corporate Finance
  • Economics
Our students have the opportunity to study any of these courses. Moreover, we provide a range of options to choose from to form a unique study plan. For instance, during the latter years of undergraduate studies and Master’s degree course, students might take additional subjects taught by any HSE department, attend the Yandex School of Data Analysis, choose a minor, and join summer schools with Faculty support.

Today, people with analytical thinking and strategy designing skills are in dire need and are searched for by companies in industries of IT, insurance, analytics, etc. As an example, our graduates may get a job in such large companies as Yandex, Google, Intel, Sberbank, Gazprom, Rosatom, Tinkoff Bank.
