On March 4, 2014, a lecture series by Giuseppe Ianniello, a full professor at the University of Tuscia, Viterbo, Italy, got underway at the HSE Nizhny Novgorod. For two weeks, participating students will study European financial reporting standards. Moreover, Giuseppe Ianniello will teach an introductory Italian language course for the HSE Nizhny Novgorod students who will be participating in a University of Tuscia master’s programme beginning October 1, 2014.
Professor Ianniello’s visit falls within the HSE Nizhny Novgorod – University of Tuscia framework agreement which provides for student exchanges (in 2013, three HSE students successfully participated in the University of Tuscia’s master’s programme). In addition, the two universities are conducting joint research in auditing, consulting, and financial reporting.
‘Italian universities are open for HSE students,’ says Professor Ianniello. The students from Nizhny Novgorod’s faculties of economics and management, who speak good Italian, will spend a year in Italy, and, upon completing their studies, will have to defend a master’s thesis. Graduates will receive a double degree from the HSE and the University of Tuscia. The tuition in Italy is free for HSE Nizhny Novgorod students, who will only have to pay their travel and accommodation expenses.
Professor Ianniello noted that Russia is one of Italy’s priority partners in trade and economics. The annual growth in trade turnover between the two countries is about 20%, according to experts.
Currently, the universities are carrying on negotiations concerning the possible participation of Italian students in the Summer School of the Faculty of Economics at the HSE Nizhny Novgorod. The school programme includes instruction in the Russian language and the essentials of Russian Economics.
