Dr. Martin Wenke, Professor of Economics, Ecology and Ethics at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, Germany, gave a lecture for Nizhny Novgorod students on the current situation in Europe as a whole, and Germany in particular. He presented an overview of his recent research published in the Joint Economic Forecast, which was set up by five German economic research institutes.
This research, which involves analyzing and forecasting economic development in Europe, is published twice a year – in spring and fall. The report covers forecasted GDP and end user consumption (e.g. of household goods, state spending on investment, export and import) for Germany and Europe, and also analyses the factors that limit and stimulate growth in this current business cycle.
Dr. Wenke also commented on the current condition of the labor market and migration flows in Europe, as well as the European Bank's policy of 'quantitative easing'.
During his visit, Dr. Wenke discussed opportunities for collaboration between HSE Nizhny Novgorod and Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
