Today's business environment requires a whole new type of manager – professionals who boast the skill-set needed to work in a globalised economy. Taking market needs into consideration, HSE Nizhny Novgorod has been running a Global Business programme as part of the Management MA course for the past two years.

Acting Dean of the Management Faculty, and HSE coordinator on the programme, Anton Varfolomeev said that this course puts the HSE in a good position to plug in to the European educational space. In their first year, Nizhny Novgorod students study alongside their Austrian and Italian peers. The education starts out at HSE Nizhny Novgorod, and then moves to the Johannes Kepler University Linz, in Austria, for the second six months. Later on, they study at the Università degli Studi di Bergamo in Italy. Students enrolled at HSE Nizhny Novgorod then return home for their second year.

The Global Business course includes an introduction to the theory and practice of management, and functional aspects of management in companies working on the global market. These include: strategic management, managing HR and finances in a company, doing business in foreign countries – becoming familiar with their business culture and gaining the skills needed for carrying out successful negotiations in a foreign country.

As part of the course, students will have the opportunity to work on business projects in Italian firms. This will add a valuable hands-on experience aspect to their education, allowing them to delve into the reality of day-to-day business, and deal with real-life issues and problems. They also have the opportunity to learn an additional foreign language – Italian or German. The course itself is taught in English.
