Along Streets and Embankments of Nizhny Novgorod

This month, those ALaTA students who arrived in Nizhny Novgorod from other Russian cities decided to go on a sightseeing tour. One of our groupmates, Daniel Morozov, volunteered to show the newcomers around. The HSE campus in BolshayaPecherskaya Street became the starting point. The first destination was the Nizhne-Volzhskaya embankment, a place known as a famous filming location. While beating their path to the place, the guests were amazed at the huge number of old buildings located right in the city centre. Having reached the embankment, they climbed up the Chkalovskaya stairs counting 444 steps leading to the Chkalov monument, the picturesque statue dedicated to the outstanding pilot. They walked a little around the Kremlin to find themselves in Rozhdestvenskaya Street, one of the oldest streets in Nizhny Novgorod. In its vicinity the travellers found the well-known Minin and Pozharsky monument. And again they had to climb up the hill - this time to see the Maxim Gorky monument observing the Fedorovsky embankment. That is where the sightseeing tour came to an end. Needless to say, the students are sincerely grateful to their classmate Daniel and looking forward to the next excursion.
