Seminar from the Academic Writing Centre HSE

On 20 September, students of Applied Linguistics and Text Analysis attended a lecture by Professor Melvin Hall, PhD in Composition and Rhetoric. They were able not only to learn about modern standards of publishing research papers, but also to test their analysis skills using concrete examples.

Seminar from the Academic Writing Centre HSE

At the beginning of the meeting, the participants shared their academic interests. The majority of the participants from all areas of research shared the same research field – humanities. Following the presentation of the fundamental principles of scientific discourse, the students were asked to trace how the theoretical provisions are implemented in practice. In this activity block the participants of the workshop identified the linguistic tools that contribute to the correct formulation of the introduction and the development of the discourse in their research work.

Finally, the speaker gave the audience an opportunity to present their own projects. Our students had a chance to be given a healthy critique of their work, which in the future will become their master's theses.
