Go Global Contest Results Announced

A contest for grants that will see the winner receive the opportunity to enroll in the international MA Global Business programme for free has come to a close. The contest committee has reviewed the results, and the winner has been announced as being Anastasia Shikina, 4th year BA Management student at HSE Nizhny Novgorod.

The first phase of the contest saw grant applications submitted that included detailed descriptions of applicants’ achievements in different areas: academic success, research activity, international experience, work experience and internships, and English-language ability. The applicant’s motivation for selecting this programme was a key aspect in the selection process. Applicants were asked to answer a number of questions and record a video (as a kind of cover letter to their application).

The second phase of the contest saw finalists prepare video-case studies for each other about the particular aspects of interacting with Italian and Austrian companies. These had to illustrate potential mistakes in this type of interaction.

Anastasia Shikina, a student from HSE Nizhny Novgorod campus, was the winner in these two phases.

  • 1st place – Anastasia Shikina, HSE Nizhny Novgorod
  • 2nd place – Natalia Belova, HSE Nizhny Novgorod
  • 3rd place – Tatiana Baza, Siberian Federal University

Anastasia Shikina:

‘I can’t explain how happy I am. The decision to apply for an MA was not an easy one for me, I considered all the various different options, and couldn’t come to a final decision. And then in May the Go Global contest was announced, I realized it was a unique chance – a one in a million – chance for me. I was in the second year when the Global Business MA programme launched at HSE, and it seemed an unattainable dream. It turns out the unattainable – is, in fact, attainable! I knew that an MA programme taught fully in English would help me in my future career, as today a large number of employers are looking for specialists that have international experience and foreign language ability. Global Business was the next level in me achieving my life goals and my career coals. I am now looking forward to starting my studies, to meeting new people and to unforgettable journeys into the Global Business world.’

Anastasia put together a very strong application for this contest, in addition to excellent grades and research projects, she outlined her experience with voluntary and commercial projects, exchange programmes, and international forums.

I am now looking forward to starting my studies, to meeting new people and to unforgettable journeys into the Global Business world.

Anastasia Shikina

‘Thanks to my experience of academic mobility, I understand what living and studying abroad really means. In my year in Austria (Linz University) I was able to talk to Global Business students, giving me a clear picture of the course. I understand the values that these students share, and the difficulties that I might encounter, and this doesn’t perturb me in the slightest!’

Anastasia also took an original approach to her video letter.

We would like to thank all the participants for their active engagement and real motivation. We congratulate Anastasia on her victory and wish her success in her studies on the programme – may it help her attain her goals!

The campus management will continue to looking for ways to support strong candidates on this programme.
