Republic of Korea Delegates Visit HSE Nizhny Novgorod

A delegation from the Embassy the Republic of Korea in the Russian Federation recently made a visit to HSE’s campus in Nizhny Novgorod. The delegation included the Minister for Political Questions to the Embassy, Mr Ha Te Yok, the Advisor and Consul-General Mr Kim Se-un, the Police Attaché, Mr Li Jon Chol, and the Deputy Director of the Korean Cultural Centre, Chon Chan Yun. The distinguished guests were met by the Deputy Directors of HSE’s Nizhny Novgorod campus, Natalya Gronskaya and Sergey Malkov.

The purpose of the South Korean delegation’s visit to Nizhny Novgorod was to organise the arrival of their soccer team for the FIFA World Cup on June 18. The Republic of Korea national team will play Sweden in their Nizhny FIFA bout.

It was also the occasion to propose a partnership between HSE Nizhny Novgorod and a Korean university, seeing as HSE students have demonstrated significant interest in learning Korean.

Mr Ha Te Yok gave a presentation to students and teachers at HSE outlining the Republic of Korea’s achievements. He focused on the economic growth of the country, which in many ways is thanks to the investment that every Korean family makes in their children’s education. The Republic of Korea is one of the most rapidly developing countries in the world and Korean automobiles, cosmetics, and pop culture are in high demand in Russia.

The audience also enquired about the state of the relationship between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Cooperation between North and the Republic of Korea (that is, their union) for the 2018 Olympics was inspirational to people across the world. Mr Ha Te Yok said that he is looking forward to the improvement of relations between the two countries, given that many citizens have been dreaming of uniting the two entities for many years.

This is not the first visit to HSE Nizhny Novgorod by delegates of the Republic of Korea Embassy, and nor will it be the last. It will no doubt become a feature of the educational programmes offered at HSE Nizhny Novgorod in the near future.
