Course Syllabus

Abstract

Infographics - a progressive way to transfer information using visual tools. It is a powerful tool for convincing others and delivering the right information. Student will learn how to create good multimedia products without the help of programmers and designers.

Learning Objectives

  • As a result of the course, students will acquire the following competencies: To know: - Basic theoretical aspects and principles of creating modern infographics; - Technological capabilities of modern tools for creating infographics To be able to: - Data search and dataset preparation - Type selection and visualization tools - Creating static and interactive infographics - Applying the laws of composition and creating a grid for slats - Work with tools for creating multimedia stories (Tilda CC) To manage: - Reporting to the target audience and creating spectacular presentations on the results of advertising campaigns. - working with data and preparing datasets for visualization - this skill will significantly increase your value in the labor market.

Course Contents

Course Contents

  • Introduction to infographics and data visualization
    Data search, dataset preparation for visualization. Basic functions of Excel and GoogleDocs for cleaning and formatting tabular data. Data types, types of graphs, choosing the right type of visualization. The main mistakes in creating infographics.
  • Instruments
    Commercial and free services for creating infographics (RAWgraphs, Infogr.am), their pros and cons. Tools for creating interactive infographics. Step by step analysis of the process of developing complex infographic projects.
  • Design in infographics
    Rules of visual perception and composition. Concepts and laws of typography. Work with color and tools to create palettes. Use grids and templates in PowerPoint to create a visually high-quality presentation.
  • Advanced level of infographics
    Basics of cartography, creating interactive maps. Scribing tools for creating schematics in infographics. Working with data storytelling: managing the attention of the reader, working with dramaturgy and searching for a story for the story in the data. Explore platforms and tools for creating multimedia projects (Tilda) and creating animations based on data.
