Conference on ‘Topological Methods in Dynamics and Related Topics’ Held in Nizhny Novgorod
During the New Year holidays, the first international conference on ‘Topological Methods in Dynamics and Related Topics’ was held at HSE. The event was organised by the Department of Fundamental Mathematics of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, and Computer Science (HSE Nizhny Novgorod).
The conference was held at HSE Nizhny Novgorod on January 3-6 and was dedicated to four areas: ‘Tpological methods in dynamics’, ‘Bifurcation and chaos’, ‘Geometry and topology of layers’, and ‘Algebra and analysis’. Participants also attended a series of biographical lectures about the founders of the Nizhny Novgorod school of nonlinear oscillations.
Fourth-year students of the bachelor's programme in Mathematics presented the results of their first research projects at the poster session. After the reports, the new master’s programme in Mathematics, which is launched in 2019, was presented to the participants. The programme represents the second stage of fundamental mathematical education and allows students to receive a double-degree (HSE and the University of Passau, Germany).
In addition to plenary meetings and poster sessions, the conference participants also went on a sightseeing tour around Nizhny Novgorod, attended jazz and classical music concerts, went on an excursion to the Rukavishnikov mansion and had dinner with colleagues and renowned scholars from around the world. Mathematicians from the universities of France, Germany, Spain, Poland, USA, Japan, China, Korea, Iran, Finland, Syria, etc. were among the conference speakers.
The conference participants shared their impressions of the event:
Professor Pavel Ryabov, Moscow
Thank you very much for the excellent organization of the scientific conference “Topological methods in dynamics and related topics” and the associated cultural programme, especially the musical part. We hope that the tradition will continue and we will open up many more interesting things about the beautiful city of Nizhny Novgorod. To attract young scientists, one could try to organize a lecture course on the most interesting topics of mathematics, topology, dynamical systems, etc.
Professor Kaveh Eftekharinasab, Kiev
The conference was organized very well, it was really informative, very engaging and helpful. I appreciate all your efforts and the welcoming atmosphere, I really enjoyed the conference and the facilities.
Professor Dmitry Bolotov, Kharkov
Thanks to the organizers of the conference. The conference was held at the highest level. I enjoyed the stay in Nizhny Novgorod, the scientific communication and the cultural programme. Keep it up Nizhny!
