Аннотация

The course focuses on preparing 4-year students for presenting the project proposal of their final research paper in English, demonstrating not only the specific knowledge of the research topic, but also language competence.

Цель освоения дисциплины

  • The main aim of the course is to build students’ communicative competence for using English in educational, scientific and professional activities. To achieve this aim the students should: - have basic knowledge about the main forms of speech interaction in the situation of academic communication; - develop the skills of scientific speech, the ability to discuss professional issues with opponents in English; - know the rules to express thoughts on a scientific problem using the appropriate vocabulary in a foreign language.

  • As a result of mastering the discipline a student ought to: know: - the main meanings of lexical units (words and phrases) within the scope of the research; - the usage of the clichés typical for the oral presentations;
  • be able to: - participate in an unprepared conversation in English on the topic of scientific research with experts
  • be able to: - participate in an unprepared conversation in English on the topic of scientific research with experts in the field; - give clear, detailed answers to questions on the topic of the study; - express own views on the problem, providing the arguments "for" and "against";
  • know: - the main meanings of lexical units (words and phrases) within the scope of the research; - the usage of the clichés typical for the oral presentations;
  • possess: - skills on holding intelligent conversations on scientific matters, stating own point of view and defending it; - foreign language communicative competence

  • Mastering stages of oral presention
    The students learn how to compose a presentation, which aspects of the work should be reflected there, how to voice the presentation.
  • Presentations of projects
    The student learns how to present the project to a board of jury
  • Preparing for discussion of the project proposal
    The student gets ready to answer the jury's questions, learns how to provide arguments and verify facts.
