A round table ‘Tolerance: New Perspectives and Stereotypes in Russia and Abroad’ timed to conincide with the International Day for Tolerance declared by UNESCO in 1995 and observed on November 16th, was held at HSE Nizhny Novgorod. The event was organised by the Faculty of Humanities, the International Relations Office, and the Department for Educational work at HSE Nizhny Novgorod.
Austrian Library Celebrates 20th Anniversary
On Friday, September 23, an Austrian delegation led by the Austrian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Dr. Emil Brix, visited the Higher School of Economics in Nizhny Novgorod on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Austrian Library in Nizhny Novgorod.

Students from Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria) as well as students from Brazil and the Republic of Korea prepared presentations and spoke about their studies in Nizhny Novgorod.
Global Business Students Presented Projects at Bergamo
The international modules of the master’s programme in Global Business have come to an end, and students have defended their projects, which they worked on for several months, at the University of Bergamo, Italy. Representatives of companies for whom the students prepared their projects as well as the representatives of three partner universities — Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria), the University of Bergamo (Italy) and HSE (Russia) — all took part in the event.
Summer School on Russian Language and Culture Starts in Nizhny Novgorod
Ten students from the Brigham Young University (Utah, USA) have arrived in Nizhny Novgorod for the Summer School on Russian Language and Culture. Between now and midsummer the students will attend lectures on intercultural communication, literature and Russian history as well as improving their knowledge of Russian.
Results of the Spring School ‘DiscourseNet’
Students of the master’s programme in ‘Political Linguistics’ have taken part in the spring school DiscourseNet ‘Critical usage of Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed-Method Software in Discourse Studies’, held at the University of Navarra, Spain.
Open Lecture by Svetlana Bryzgalova
Svetlana Bryzgalova, graduate of HSE Nizhny Novgorod, and Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University, conducted a seminar on theoretical and empirical studies in economics and finance at HSE Nizhny Novgorod. The seminar ‘GEL class of estimators: theory and applications’ was attended by both HSE students and lecturers.
How to Find Russian Santa Claus?
On December 18 the New Year celebration ceremony was held at HSE Nizhny Novgorod. Not only HSE students, but also the students from CIS countries, exchange students from France, Italy, Austria and China, and international students of the Master’s Programme in Global Business took part in the event. The participants ‘travelled’ across different countries looking for Grandfather Frost (Russian Santa Claus), and finally they found him.
Language Tandem
Language Tandem, a new project at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod, has been launched. The project involves 15 international exchange students, who came to Nizhny Novgorod from France and Italy, master’s students of Global Business from Austria and Italy, who have just started learning Russian, and 15 Russian students from various faculties who are studying foreign languages. The participants shared their impressions of the first meetings.
