Kapustnik in HSE – Niznhy Novgorod
At Higher School of Economics — Nizhny Novgorod, the international office organizes interesting and engaging events. One of them is the event called “Kapustnik”, which takes place every week at the university. During this event, international students are invited to present a few facts about their own countries and prepare a traditional or cultural dish for other students to try. Such an event really gives one a unique, insider’s perspective on different cultures, straight from people who were raised in those cultures.
Visiting South Korea, the Country with Great Opportunities
On September 18 – 22 Director of HSE-Nizhny Novgorod Valery Zusman visited the Korean Republic on the invitation of National Institute for International Education. The delegation, which he joined, included 14 participants from eleven countries: Germany, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia. University administrators, government officials from Ministries of Education, outstanding professor were among the guests.
Lesson on management and leadership from business leader with international experience
On Jan 31 Dr. Florian Reiter, president of International Community Association of Nizhny Novgorod region (ICANN), Plant Manager of “Volkswagen Group RUS”, met with students of HSE - Nizhny Novgorod and shared with them his vision on managers’ functions in the constantly changing business environment. He spoke about the leadership role in the contemporary world as well as his international work experience in Germany, China, and Russia.

Michelle Eggen is a fourth year student from The University of New Mexico , Albuquerque. Her major is international studies. But this semester she is at Higher School of Economics - Nizhny Novgorod studying Russian language and English literature. She loves writing stories, singing, and reading.
The USA Party!
On November 23 at 4 p.m., on the eve of Thanksgiving Day, HSE-NN instructor Christian Lloyd and exchange student of the Humanities faculty Michelle Eggen presented the USA to International Club members and told the audience about the country’s history, customs, traditions, holidays and parks, famous people, popular sports and Thanksgiving celebration.
International Tea Party
The idea of having a party that would unite students from Newly Independent States, the USA, Europe, and Asia had been discussed many times, and at last International Students’ Club organized the event on November 19 (Saturday).
International Club Meetings at HSE Nizhny Novgorod
International students gather together to speak about the history, culture and traditions of their countries at the regular International Club meetings at HSE Nizhny Novgorod. Presentations of national cuisine spice up these meetings, which bring together a lot of students and often result in fun performances with singing and dancing.
Austrian Library Celebrates 20th Anniversary
On Friday, September 23, an Austrian delegation led by the Austrian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Dr. Emil Brix, visited the Higher School of Economics in Nizhny Novgorod on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Austrian Library in Nizhny Novgorod.
HSE as One Big Multinational Family
A regular meeting of first-year BA and MA international students with the HSE Nizhny Novgorod administration has been held at the Austrian library. The students shared their first impressions of studying at HSE and life in Russia.
