
‘At HSE University We Can See an Important Combination of Horizontal and Vertical Scientific Connections’
Nizhny Novgorod is considered not only the IT capital of Russia, but also a ‘city with big intellectual potential’. What interesting and breakthrough projects in the humanities and natural sciences are successfully implemented in the region today? What conditions have been created for young researchers to work in research centres and universities? These issues were discussed by the heads of Nizhny Novgorod universities at a press conference dedicated to Russian Science Day. Valery Zusman, Academic Supervisor of HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod, Professor, and Doctor of Sciences in Literature of Western Europe, America and Australia, took part in the discussion.

‘What Brought Me to Law Was My Love of History’
2020 has become a year of research for Yaroslava Mavlyutova, third-year law student at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod, including participation in five research competitions, prize-winning places and ambitious international tasks. ‘Fundamental Mathematics Is Creative Work’
Elena Nozdrinova is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Fundamental Mathematics at HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod, and Research Fellow at the International Laboratory of Dynamical Systems and Applications. In 2021, Elena graduates from the doctoral programme of HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod. The theme of her thesis, ‘Simple connectivity components of gradient-like diffeomorphisms of surfaces’, is related to the development of mathematics as a science. Elena told us why she decided to enrol on the HSE’s doctoral programme, why we need fundamental mathematics, and what role the team plays in the formation of a young scientist.

HSE University Announces Four Master’s Degrees on Coursera
Degrees in business, technology, and data science will enable students around the world to prepare for the jobs of tomorrow. HSE University and Coursera today announced four new online degree programmes at global higher education conference, eSTARS. With upcoming English-language master’s programmes in business analytics, computer vision, data and network analytics, and finance, HSE now has five fully online degrees on the Coursera platform.

HSE University among Top-5 Russian Universities on THE Reputation Ranking
International experts have recognised Harvard University as the best in the world in terms of reputation. Moscow State University was ranked 37th, while HSE University entered the Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings 2020, within the 151-175 range, taking fifth position among Russian universities, showing a commendable result for such a young institution.
